Data Inventory

Continue and further develop Frisco’s current signal data sharing and Waze data sharing programs. In addition to those programs, we want to develop a data inventory that serves as the foundation of our efforts to stand up an open data platform. We are partnering with the University of North Texas to make advances in open data and analytics. Frisco participated in UNT’s Open Data Day which was hosted at their Frisco campus. These initiatives are key to achieving two goals.First, to make data available to the traveling public so they can make good mobility choices and second, to use analytics to assure we are operating our transportation system effectively.

Identify Opportunities Suited to Frisco

Develop partnerships with the private sector and research institutions to break down silos and find and evaluate mobility solutions that a can be good for Frisco. This past year, the Frisco Transportation Management Association continued its work identifying innovative transportation solutions. The City of Frisco also continued a partnership with the University of North Texas in the areas of data analytics and connected and automated vehicles, as well as participating in an innovative project-based degree program with focus on Transportation. Frisco is partnering with the University of Texas at Arlington to conduct an evaluation of an adaptive traffic signal control system operating at five intersections in Frisco. Frisco is also a participant in the Texas Innovation Alliance which offers a platform for teams across the state to share ideas and lessons learned regarding transportation innovation.

Connected and Autonomous Vehicles

Frisco continues to focus on development of autonomous and connected vehicle technology. In the past year the City has worked with private industry partners testing and implementing autonomous personal delivery devices navigating City streets and sidewalks. These initiatives have prompted innovation in other areas such as the development of data sharing best practices, facility maintenance audits, and development of technology that allows communication between delivery devices and city infrastructure.
