Integration of University and City of San Marcos Bus System

The City of San Marcos has recently become the recipient of federal funds for public transportation and is currently in conversations with Texas State University to create a program to integrate the two public transportation systems. These initiatives are key to achieving two goals. To provide service more often to more locations and to create better funding sources and efficiencies through increased ridership.

Utilization of the Last-Mile Electric Cabs

Funding electric cabs through a downtown county and city transportation and infrastructure reinvestment zone (TIRZ) for last-mile options for employees in response to parking challenges. This service could also be available to local business clientele and University employees and students to access downtown restaurants to increase economic development.

Downtown Mobility HUB

As one of the fastest growing counties in the region, as well as being surrounded by rivers and recharge land, Hays County and San Marcos continue to work toward new alternative transportation options for air and water quality as well as the quality of life for our residents. The City of San Marcos created the first Mobility HUB in the county that goes hand in hand with Travel Demand Management to offset the need for additional parking that is unaffordable to build. This space also offers Bike stations for storage and repair, short term parking for rideshare, a bus stop that will be relocated to this location as well as integrating low impact infra-structure for water run-off, and a community stage for the public to gather. Wimberley is a tourist town that sits in the center of the hill county and is currently in the design and funding phase of hike and bike trails for transportation needs with an emphasis of youth commuting to and from school and jobs in town centers.
